My Experience & Modifications
This pattern was pure relaxation — one of those projects you can work on while chatting or watching TV.
I made a few small changes along the way:
-
Added four rows to the bottom color block for extra length. I wanted it a little longer for where I wanted the end to hit, and since the sleeves add a bit of color length to the top I wanted to even this out a little as well.
-
After wearing, I noticed the sleeves stretched, so I reworked by removing a few rows and re-stitching together.
-
Used slip stitches to attach the sleeves in the back (I’m not a fan of seaming!).
The finished tank is lightweight, comfy, and perfect for layering. I love pairing it with a thin under-tank for coverage on hot days.

Working with Fair Isle Harbor Yarn
Wearing the finished piece? Dreamy.
Crocheting with it? A little tricky.
The yarn’s cotton-viscose blend feels silky and drapes beautifully — but I had some splitting issues while using my Bates hook. Switching to a Boye helped, but not completely.
If you’re a knitter, you might find this yarn even more enjoyable on needles than with a hook. It shines in projects where its softness and sheen can flow uninterrupted.
The CAL (Crochet-A-Long) Experience
I joined this pattern through a Stitch & Hustle Crochet-A-Long, which made the whole project even more fun. Seeing everyone’s color choices and progress posts on Instagram and Ravelry added a sense of community that I absolutely loved.

Finishing Touches
Of course, no project is complete without a little jewelry love — my clay heart necklace from Handmade Mom paired perfectly with this tank.

And yes, my husband photo-bombed my pictures — proof that handmade life is never dull! 😄 ~although we are leaving the example until the end so less will get to it!
💜 Final Thoughts
The Maui Sunset Tank is an easy, satisfying make and a great pattern for confident beginners or anyone wanting a light summer project. The Fair Isle Harbor yarn delivers beautiful drape and shine, even if it demands a bit of patience while working.
Would I make it again? Absolutely — next time, maybe with a different yarn & saving Harbor for knitting. 😉
